Green Party Ride

[Note - This event is being organised by the Leeds Green Party, not LCC.  We are simply posting details of their ride as it seems like the sort of ride our members and other cyclists would be interested in]

The Leeds Green Party Social Bike Ride

The LGP are pleased to be able to formally launch plans for a recreational bike ride taking us through all the wards covered by the Leeds green party. This is intended to be taken at touring pace so whilst you will need road sense and feel able to ride as part of a group you don't need to be the next Bradley Wiggins to take part.

This event is open to all members plus friends and family.

We will be touring through a very varied selection of Leeds locations and this is also a good opportunity to explore areas you rarely have reason to visit, where possible we will be promoting the city bike schemes by using cycle lanes and designated cycle paths and marked routes.

This event will take place on Sunday 15th of November so wrap up warm and hope for good weather!  Due to the fading light as winter approaches it will be an early start with a meeting time by the Monument statue in Hyde Park at 10am for a departure no later than 10.30 am.  The proposed route will take around 4 to 5 hours or so including regular stoppages to take on water, keep the group together and take pictures.  There will be a proper lunch stop at a pub or café approximately halfway along the intended route.

There are some plans for a possible west Leeds feeder route to the start point and anybody interested should contact David Smith.  It is understandable that for time or other practical reasons people cannot commit to the full route however this need not put anyone off choosing to join in for whatever time and distance they wish to.

The guide route is shown on the link below:

All ages are welcome to be involved but any under 16's must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  We would recommend that personal safety such as helmets, high visibility clothing and bike locks are used however this will be left up to the individual's personal choice.

A suggestion has been made to create flags for the event that can be attached to backpacks and pannier bags and Max Tennant has kindly offered to gather material for this, anyone with a sewing machine and some abilities would gratefully be requested to contact Max.

It would be a good visual spectacle if we could wear as much green clothing and green party merchandise as possible.

There will be no entry fee but small donations would be greatly appreciated.
