SkyRide: thousands of cyclists in Leeds!

LCC committee chat with new members

This Sunday 7th July saw the very first SkyRide in Leeds, when thousands of people experienced the joy of pedal power in the glorious summer sunshine. The 5km route took in some of the key sights around central Leeds and was completely traffic-free on closed roads: a new experience for most of our members! It was particularly wonderful to see so many families out on bikes: with trailers, tagalongs, and child seats of all kinds. A Tour de France style finish was even provided, complete with cowbells and a cheering crowd at the summit finish.

The Leeds Cycling Campaign stall on Woodhouse Moor was buzzing with new members, chatting to our dream team who were emblazoned in the brand new Leeds Cycling Campaign T Shirts. Yes, they will be available for sale, watch this space!

The celebrity side of things was held up by professional cyclists Ben Swift and Matt Crampton, along with the time trial bike Bradley Wiggins rode in last year's Tour de France victory, and popstress and 'Breeze' womens' cycling champion Kimberley Walsh.

Now all we need is a monthly repeat of the road closures. Come on, Leeds, let's go cycling crazy!
